2. In preparation for the assignment, we did several things like
- Discussing basic analytical concepts (SLR, AATP, etc.)
- Discussing the basic outline of the paper
- Analyzing sample papers
- Peer reviewing first drafts
- Conducting individual conferences
Which of them were the most and the least useful?
Personally, the most challenging part of writing this essay was the topic in general. Never have I analyzed and written a paper on another piece of writing. I also found it fairly difficult to differentiate between academic and nonacademic sources. Another aspect that was new to me was the APA format. It took me lots of time and research to make my paper reach all the guidelines. An idea that I think could make my assignment more useful to the reader would be if I analyzed the sources deeper. However, with the page limit it was pretty non-realistic. I think the one-on-one meeting with you was the most useful resource, because we were able to get feedback that we knew was accurate. Overall, I had a great experience writing this paper, and I learned a lot of new skills and techniques. As my first college paper, I realized the hard work that must be put in to get a good outcome.
ReplyDeleteThe most challenging part of this assignment for me had to do with collecting sources. I had a hard time distinguishing documents from aca to non. Just individual work.
ReplyDelete2. SLR and aatp were very beneficial for me determining how to structure my paper and convey info the best. For me, discussing the basic outline for the paper was about the same for me as the slr and aatp so I just thought that it was unnecessary.
I feel like the most challenging part of the assignment for me was getting the APA style format correct and learning the ways. What could be changed is a better understanding of the assignment. The most useful was analyzing sample papers and the least useful was the the basic outline because it was hard for me to understand it.
ReplyDelete1. The most challenging part of the assignment was using APA format. I've only ever used MLA, so a whole new format was a hurdle. I can't think of anything to be changed but maybe we could have read different types of academic writing to understand what is unique about the one we chose.
ReplyDelete2. The most helpful/useful thing we did in preparation was analyzing sample papers. The assignment is just directions until you see what it actually can produce which helped me a lot.
1. The thing that was the most challenging part of the assignment making sure that what was written made sense. One thing that could be changed to make this easier is create a list of questions with people for each section, not just what should be talked about.
ReplyDelete2. The most useful thing that was done was seeing sample papers and knowing what rough grade they recieved. And the least useful would probably have to be discussing the basic outline of the paper.
1. I think the most challenging part was getting used the APA formatting style. I have always worked in MLA so I am used to that. Having to change the formatting was difficult for me organizationally. I do not think there is anything you can change to make this assignment better.
ReplyDelete2. I think the most important was individual conferences because you where able to help us really figure out what we needed to improve in our papers. i think the worst was peer edit because not everyone knew what they where doing.
1. It think the part of this assignment that I found to be most difficult was the integration of quotes with proper citation. I understand that it's important to establishing credibility, I just wasn't used to it and wish I could've done it better.
ReplyDelete2. For me, the most helpful thing we did to prepare for this paper was the discussion of the basic analytical concepts while the least helpful was the discussion of the papers basic outline. By understanding the analytical concepts, I was ready to tackle an in-depth analysis with a strategy in mind (I'm usually disorganized). However, the discussion of the outline was a little redundant as we could see the sample papers and figure out for ourselves what outlines were most effective.
The most difficult thing in the first unit would be collecting sources from the whole internet since it’s really hard to figure out whether the source is the one you are looking for or not. To improve this, I think I just need more practices and at the time when I’m experienced at this, it won’t be that hard.
ReplyDeleteThe most useful should be analyzing sample papers and the least useful is peer reviewing first draft.
The most difficult part of this assignment was analyzing my academic sources. Since my discipline is not scientific or mathematic, it was not easy analyzing the language sections of my sources, as there isn't quantitative data or complex language. Discussing the basic outline of the paper was very useful, but I would say the most helpful aspect of writing the paper was having examples to read. When we analyzed the six essays in class, it helped me get an idea of what you were looking for in a good paper. In the future, I think going over APA formatting before we write would be useful as I referred to online examples quite a bit.
ReplyDeleteThe most challenging part was finding the right sources that had good examples of rhetorical devices in them. A lot of my sources that I went through and never used were not good enough for this kind of paper. Something that helped me was discussing the rhetorical elements, such as SLR. It helped me understand what I should be evaluating and how to effectively do it.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy writing papers, but I'd have to say the most challenging part of writing this one was the APA formatting. I typically write in Chicago style, so for references I typically use footnotes to cite things - completely different than APA. I think having to write in this format was a bit of a handicap. I think the unfamiliarity of APA kept me from doing my best work. Also, I think the peer comments were the least helpful for me, because I didn't have my draft printed to be written on physically.
ReplyDeleteI found finding academic works for graphic seismic to be the most difficult part because I didn’t know where to start. I found the sample papers to be helpful because it helped me start a paper I was generally confused about. I also found the individual conferences to be helpful because we were able to talk one on one and ask questions to help with any lingering confusion. Although helpful, compared to the rest of the topic on this list the basic outline would have to be at the bottom.
